A Long-Term Future for Essential Swimming Facilities.
A 15-year partnership, comprehensive plant renewal and building refurbishment.
Wagtail helped Mighty Splash and Fosse Way School establish a sustainable operating arrangement for a swimming pool and hydrotherapy pool used by pupils with additional needs.
Keeping essential facilities reliable
Fosse Way School operates a 12m × 5m swimming pool and a 3m × 3m hydrotherapy pool. Both support swimming and water-based therapy for pupils with additional needs.
The facilities had suffered from reactive maintenance, poor reliability and a lack of capital for comprehensive renewal.
Long-term security for school and operator
Wagtail developed the proposal for Mighty Splash to operate the pool and invest in major improvements in return for secure access outside school hours. The 15-year agreement, with a five-year extension option, was signed directly between Fosse Way School and Mighty Splash.
Coordinating the refurbishment
Wagtail prioritised repairs, appointed and coordinated specialist contractors, and managed the programme covering complete plant room renewal, external building and weatherproofing repairs, and improvements to the reception and entrance areas. Specialist contractors undertook technical installation and construction.
The pools
Facilities for teaching and therapy.

Plant room renewal
Filter media replacement, renewed pipework and circulation equipment, with redundant components removed from site.

Building and entrance works
The programme extended to building fabric and access areas.

What this project demonstrates
The school now has a more reliable facility available during the school day, while Mighty Splash has a long-term base for lessons in evenings and at weekends. The arrangement reduces the school’s maintenance burden and creates commercial security for the swim school.
